The architectural beauty of Bikaner has mesmerized many a tourist from across the world.

The red sandstone forts and opulent palaces of Bikaner speak volumes about the rich history of this princely city. The city was named after its founder, Rao Bikaji, who founded it five centuries ago. The stunning architectural establishments of Bikaner reflect the Rajput style of architecture at its best. The camel rides of Bikaner are renowned the world over for their charm, and the city is aptly called the “camel country”. The famous Bikaneri bhujia and namkeen (a salted snack made of lentils) is a delicious contribution of Bikaner to the world. At one point of time, Bikaner was an important trade route linking India with China and Central Asia.

Attractions of Bikaner

Junagarh Fort
This magnificent Fort boasts of several attractions such as the Moon Palace, Phool Palace, Karan Mahal, Rang Mahal, Anup Mahal, Har Mandir and a museum. The museum houses manuscripts, carpets, jewellery, weapons and jars belonging to the Raja-Maharajas of the 16th century. The fort was built by Raja Rai Singh in the 16th century. The architecture is a perfect blend of several architectural styles.


Camel research Farm
Founded by the Indian Council of Agricultural research in 1984, the Camel Research Farm is the only one of its kind in Asia. It was established with an aim to improve camel breeding for commercial purposes.


Deshnok Temple
It is an amazing temple where thousands of rats are worshipped and treated like God. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Karni (incarnation of Goddess Durga) and was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh in the 20th century. Out of thousand of rats, five are said to be white, and the sight of such a holy rat is considered auspicious. Despite the presence of such a huge population of rats there has never been any incident of plague or any other rat borne disease.


Camel Festival
Celebrated with great enthusiasm in the month of January every year, the Camel Festival is full of camel sports, competitions, dance and music performances.


Miniature Paintings
Admired all over the world, the miniature paintings of Bikaner are truly masterpieces. Their distinctive style leaves the onlookers mesmerized.


Laxmi Niwas Palace
Once the abode of the erstwhile maharajah of Bikaner, Laxmi Niwas Palace is an architectural marvel whose beauty can't be described in words. One must see this opulent palace, which was designed by the British architect, Sir Samuel Swinton Jaccob in the year 1902. Now the palace has been converted into a heritage hotel.
