Location

Rajasthan is the largest state of North India encompassing most of the area of the large Great Indian Desert(Thar Desert). Covering an area of 342,269 sq km(about the size of Germany), Rajasthan is a famous tourist destination of India. Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan.

Flora And Fauna

Rajasthan is a land of contrast. While one part of it is covered by the Thar Desert, the other part is proud of its rich vegetation. The Aravallies and Vindhya ranges are dominated by the forests,which comprises of about 9 % of the total area. Kejri or prosopis cineraria is the most prominent tree found in Rajasthan. Its bean shaped fruit, sangri, is used as food. Other trees found here are akaro and shrubs, the thor, botdi babul, anwal, sewan, dhaman, boor and bhatut.


Rajasthan boasts of rich variety of fauna,which can be classified into mammals, reptiles and birds. Rajasthan is a famous habitat of tigers and endangered species. Some of the species found in Rajasthan are nilgai, bluebull, nilgai, chinkara, tiger, leopard, elephant, langur, jackal, wolf, sambar, chital, Indian porcupine, desert fox, Indian gerbil, five-striped palm squirrel, wild boar, endangered black buck and many more. For wildlife freaks, Rajasthan offers several wildlife sanctuaries such as  Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Sariska National Park, Desert National Park,Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary and Ranthambore National Park. Beautiful and colourful birds inclusive of migratory birds inhabit the forests of Rajasthan. Avian species such as common crane, coots, ducks, pelicans and the rare Siberian cranes, imperial sand grouse, falcons and buzzards are found here.

Climate

Rajasthan experiences all the four seasons Winter,summer,spring and autumn. It is hot in summers and cold in winters. In summers the temperature ranges from 32 °C to 45 °C . In winters the average maximum temperature is  33 °C to 38 °C and the minimum temperature is between  18 °C to 20 °C


Best Time To Visit Rajasthan

The best time to travel to Rajasthan is from October to March. The climate remains pleasant during this period.


How To Reach Rajasthan

By Air: Jaipur is an international airport. Udaipur and Jodhpur are the other two important airports, which are connected by regular flights to the main cities of India like Delhi and Mumbai.

By Rail: The major railway stations are in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Udaipur, which connects Rajasthan to the main Indian cities.

By Road: A fine network of National Highways and State Highways make Rajasthan easily accessible by road.
