Corbett National Park


Capturing the imagination of numerous tourists with its diverse wildlife, Corbett National Park is a famous wildlife destinations of India. Nestled in the impressive Himalayan foothills of Uttaranchal, the park is rich in bio-diversity. Attracting wildlife buffs from all across the globe, the park is known for leopards, tigers and crocodiles. The major attraction of the park is Bengal tiger. The foundation of the park was laid in 1936 and in 1973, it became a part of Project Tiger Scheme.

Named after the renowned author and wildlife conservationist Jim Corbett, the park sprawled over 520 sq km. It is among the oldest wildlife reserves in India. The diverse geographical features include wet and dry, plain and mountainous, forests and grasslands altogether makes the park an appealing attraction. Moreover, the beautiful rivers, small streams and ridges criss -crossing its terrain enhance the beauty of the park.


Wildlife in Corbett National Park

The park provides shelter to various animals like Tigers, Sambar, Leopard, Deer, Langur, Monkeys,  Spotted Deer, Wild Boars, Crocodiles. Other animals that you can find here are Indian Grey Mongoose, Sloth and Himalayan Black Bears, Yellow-Throated Martens, Otters and Wild Elephants.

The park is also home to various species of birds with around 580 bird species. It includes both resident as well as migratory birds.


Flora

The Park has around 600 species of trees, herbs, shrubs, bamboos, climbers, grasses and ferns.


Other Attractions

The nearby attractions include Dhikala ( a rest house here), Kanda Ridge and Kalagarh Dam. Visiting these destinations allow you to enjoy the natural beauty and bird watching. Many migratory waterfowl comes here in the winters.


Getting Around in the park

Tourists can also go for Elephant safari or Jeep safari for exploring the park. Fishing is permitted at Pancheshwar, Binsar and Ramgarh with special permission from forest officials.

From November to June

By Air: Phoolbagh in Pantnagar is the nearest airport.
By Rail: Ramnagar is the nearest railhead, linked to other major cities of North India.
