Sariska National Park

If you wish to enjoy camel safaris, wildlife watching or shopping in the surrounding areas, Sariska National Park is the place for you. Nestled in the Aravali Hills, Sariska Tiger Reserve is spread over 800 sq km area. Divided into the grasslands, sheer cliffs, deciduous forests and beautiful landscape. The place offers you to see a variety of wild animals.

The sanctuary houses the remains of medieval temples of Garh-Rajor dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries. A 17th century castle on a hilltop at Kankwari offers a spectacular view of flying vultures and eagles. It was declared a sanctuary in the year 1955 and finally became a National Park in the year 1979.

Wildlife in Sariska National Park

The reserve is home to a variety of carnivores including Leopard, Tiger, Jackal, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat and Hyena. The herbivores here include Sambhar, Nilgai, Chital, Chausingha, Langur and Wild Boar.
Known for its huge population of Rhesus Monkeys, the park also houses many bird species. These include Grey Partridge, Peafowl, Bush Quail, Tree Pie, Sand Grouse, Crested Serpent Eagle Golden Backed Wood Pecker and the Great Indian Horned Owl.

Vegetation

A major part of the dry deciduous vegetation at the park includes Dhok trees whereas the rest of the region is covered with different trees like Tendu, Ber, Goria, Khair and Surwal. Besides this, the vegetation here consists of thorn thickets and scrub forests.

Other attractions

Several special attractions include The Kankwari Fort (a major historic structure), The Ancient Shiva Temples (temples of 6th -13th century), The Sariska Palace (now converted into a hotel).

You can embark on jeep safari to explore the sanctuary, which is the best way to view wildlife and wildlife photography.

How to Reach

By Air: Jaipur is the nearest airport from Sariska National Park.
By Rail: Alwar is the nearest railhead.

Accommodation

Different accommodation options are available close to the park which provide comfortable accommodation for the tourists. Hotel Sariska Palace and Tiger Haven Sariska are the popular names. There are other budget accommodation at Alwar, which is located nearby Sariska.
