Great Himalayan National Park


Situated at the Kullu town in Himachal Pradesh, the Great Himalayan National Park is a famous tourist attraction. Built in the year 1984, it lies around 60 km from Kullu. It is a blessing in disguise for those who want to treat themselves with sheer natural beauty. Adventure lovers can also enjoy exciting adventure here.

The park is home to around 375 faunal species including mammals, birds, amphibians, replies and many more. A visit to the park offers an excellent experience for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and trekkers. For the protection of the park, the hunting has been banned by The state government of Himachal Pradesh.


Wildlife in Great Himalayan National Park

Different animals can be seen in the park including the Himalayan Black Bear, Red Fox, Himalayan Tahr, Monkeys, Langoor, Musk deer, Serow, Goral, Barking Deer, Blue Sheep and Snow Leopard.

There is also a long list of birds which makes the park a beautiful place to visit. These include Shorebirds, Cuckoos, Raptors, Parakeets, Pigeons and Owls. You can also view the small mammals like Himalayan Weasel, Indian Pika, Yellow Throated Marten, Porcupine and Giant Indian Flying Squirrel.


Flora

The dense forests of Cedar, Oak and Pine trees altogether makes up the flora. A wide variety of colourful flowers and Bamboos wild grass can also be seen here.

Other nearby attractions of the park include The Sai Ropa Tourist Center, The Larji Information Center, Local Architecture and Religious Sites.

How To Reach

By Air: Bhuntar is the nearest airport.
By Rail: Chandigarh is the nearest railhead connecting to other major Indian cities through regular trains.
By Road: Regular buses also connect Kullu with major north Indian cities including Delhi and Chandigarh.


Accommodation

You will not find many accommodation options available at the park. Most of the tourists have to stay inside tents that have to be brought themselves. You can stay in huts built for the patrolling staff.
