Govind National Park


Govind Wildlife Sanctuary is a perfect getaway to enjoy all the major wildlife attractions at one place. Lies among the lush surrounding of Uttarkashi, the sanctuary has a lot to offer. Sprawled over an area of 953 sq. km, this national park offers you everything from wildlife to rare birds, from snow-covered peaks to impressive glaciers. The park becomes really attractive in the months of May-June due to the full blooming flowers and pleasant weather.

Established in the year 1955, the sanctuary is also home to the rare Snow Leopard and around 150 types of birds. Wrapped the hills of Uttaranchal in green forest carpets, Himalayan flora and fauna have survived here. Tourists have the excellent opportunity to see the enchanting wildlife during their Govind National Park tour.


Wildlife in Govind National Park

This wildlife sanctuary is famous for being a home to white tigers. The wildlife here includes Snow Leopard, Himalayan Thar, Black Bear, Common Leopard, Bharal, Brown Bear, Serow, Musk Deer, Western Tragopan and Monal Pheasant. Tourists can find around 150 bird species in the park which forms a significant part of its wildlife. Other than these, you can also see other wildlife attractions including Golden Eagle, Black Eagle, Bearded Vulture, Koklas Pheasant, Himalayan Snow Cock, Pigeons, Parakeets, Finches, Cuckoos,Owls, Minivets, Steppe Eagle, Bulbuls, Warblers, Tits, Thrush and Buntings. There are more than 15 species of mammals flourishing in the jungles of the Park.


Flora

The Govind National Park has abundance of sheer scenic beauty. It is home to Western Himalayan subalpine conifer forests at its lower altitude while at its higher elevations, you can see Western Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows.

Vegetation comprises here chir pine deodar, spruce, fir, oak and rhododendrons.


Other Attraction

Har-ki-Doon, Ruinsara Tal, Deokyara, Kedarkantha and Bhratsar are some other attractions for the tourists. Tourists who love adventure, can experience trekking at Har-ki-Doon, which is known for its emerald greenery. Swargarohini, Banderpunch and Black Peak are some important peaks in the area.

From April to June and from September to November.

By Rail: The closest railhead is Dehradun.
